Helping to pay another's mortgage doesn't make the interest deductible. A filer who lived with his girlfriend in her home claimed he paid her cash so she could make the mortgage payments on the house. He then deducted the interest, even though he wasn't liable on the mortgage and the house wasn't titled in his name. He wasn't an equitable owner of the property because he bore no burdens or benefits of ownership.
